My son was recently diagnosed with having ADHD. I always just assumed he was just an overly active busy little boy. So I think back to all the times he has gotten in to trouble and think it wasn't really his fault. Just looking for stories tips or anything to help this go smoothly for me.. Thanks Maya H

My brother has ADHD and my kids are both Autistic, with hyper tendancies... the biggest thing that's helped all of them with that was giving them an activity to do... something physical that not only tired them out, but was good for them. We do our best to plan something every few days that really takes some 'oomph' out of them - even if its simply a race around the family home for the afternoon.

The other thing my girls enjoy doing is yoga or the "meditation game" on the Wii Fit Plus. Its fun for them and teaches them the ability to sit still for longer periods of time. (the "who can stare longer without laughing" game also works!) They also don't have anything with caffiene in it - chocolate, caffinated soda pop, and candies or sweets with red dye can be awful for children who are hyperactive - they simply cannot control themselves.

Its important to remember that even though he's got a shiney new diagnosis, he's still the same boy you know and love and nothing with him has changed aside from that now you have a direction to go to learn to help him cope with the issues his little body may be having.

Good luck to you!
