Ok. My daughter will be starting school this year. I homeschooled her last year, but this year, she will be attending school part if the week. How did you other moms handle your first going off to school?

Hi. I have had to send off 3 children to school, and found it very difficult each time. I had so many worries, about bullying, toileting, fitting in - all the usual fears, but each of my children went off no problem and they all loved it! The thing is, children simply don't worry about things, they just get on with it. It is us Mums' that cry and worry ourselves sick over everything. Your daughter will be fine. You've been teaching her yourself, so you know she will be able to cope woth the work (not that they really work in Yr R). She will amaze you with her settling in capabilities - just wait and see. I know it can be lonely to have your child go to school but be proud that she is ready to go to public school this year. It's part of becoming independant and growing up. Please don't let her know that you are nervous about her going to school or she will be more nervous too. You'll both be great!

I was excited for them, but when they got on the bus, I came home and cried. After about 3 days, I was ok when I came home from them getting on the bus. It was kinda nice having no fighting and getting housework done, and having some alone time. My autistic lil guy starts normal kindergarten this year, and I am dreading it, but in the end, I know he will be ok in his new "normal" school. He has truly come a long way! I am so proud of him!

Make a big deal out of it and buy her a new backpack. Let her help you pick out the school supplies, etc. Make it excting for her. Even though my kids are going into 3rd and 6th grades, they still love this yearly ritual. It gets them excited about the year ahead.
