Should I send emails to moms before sending an invitation out for my son's birthday???

My son is turning 8 in April. I'm planning his birthday party since we skipped last year. My son is a bit shy. In his class, he has three close friends but does not play or socialize with most of his classmates. He is given choice of guest list for his birthday party. My son selects about 7 - 8 of his classmates out of 26 kids that he wants to invite for his party. I'm worry that no one shows up for the party....
I'm thinking to send emails to those moms if their kids are available for such date before sending an invitation out.
Is this sounds too pushy???? I just want to make sure that people show up for the party and I can make proper reservation and food preparation.

I never thought about the evites, but when we planned my granddaughter's 6th birthday party we did send both emails and invites through the mail. We did both because we wanted to explain a little more about the party, give directions, etc. in the email. And it's a good thing we did because we found out that almost all the girls had a scouting event that day so we changed dates!
