Silly behavior

HI. My 8 year old daughter is always trying to make people laugh. Instead of talking to them, she acts silly (and loud) but she is not funny to others although they sometimes smile at her. I have asked her just talk to people, don't always try to get a laugh. I explain that they won't get to know the bright sweet girl she is if she is always acting silly.

Nothing I have said works! Just recently I started taking things away from her when I see her behave this way. She has done this since she was 3 and I thought it was a phase but sadly it has become part of her personality. I don't want her peers to see her as the silly girl. I want her to have strong friendships. She has a couple good friends but I feel they are getting tired of her behavior.

I don't know what to do. Is this what she does when she doesn't know what to say? Any advice?

You have given her good advice and knowing this has been going on for a few years, I believe you should get some professional help for your daughter. I was hoping that maybe this was just a phase but almost 5 years have gone by and she is still the same way then you should find out what is causing her to act this way.
