Staying on task at school.

My 5 year old daughter who attends kindergarten has difficulty staying motivated and on task to complete her work in class. She has been screened for underlying problems (none were noted) and is definitely not in need of medication. Any suggestions for figuring out what makes her tick and how to get her to focus on the task at hand?

You also need to remember they are just starting school. It takes a while for some kids to learn to settle down and do their work.

My 4yr old is in preschool and knows how to do all her writing but she refuses. We try to put goals ahead for her. We did this with my 9yr old dsd as well. She was chatty in class and wouldn't finish her classwork becaue of it so we told her if this stopped and she had good marks at PTC than she could pick a special place to eat or bowling. Just some sort of incentive to work for it. We are doing that wit hmy 4yr old and tonight she did all her work.
My 4yr old knows all these things she is supposed to pass off with her teacher but she just gets lazy and doesn't. She also has Asperger's so maybe thats why? lol but hopefully you are able to find something that works.

Thanks Jessica, it's good to know I'm not the only one. It's so frustrating knowing she can do the work if she wants to.

My son is also in kindergarten and very bright. He has a terrible time finishing his work at school (and at home!) His teacher is going to try to get him to finish his work a little faster and I'm at a loss at home as to what to do!

I don't know what to do to help you but just to let you know that you are not alone!
