my son has a routine, he's 8 month and been in a routine since birth. you will find the routine will change at times as they get older. It's just perserverance with nap routines, sounds horrible but i didn't give in. Baby will cry but keep checking and making sure your baby is ok and after bowt 5days to 1 week your baby will settle to the nap times. If you want routine don't give in good luck x

Quoting Sarah:

My daughter does not have a strict routine. She takes 2-3 naps a day, when she is tired, although I find she naps best after being awake for 3 hours. She does have her meals and bottles around the same time and bedtime is always between 6:30 and 7:30 pm. Now if I could just get her to sleep past 5am we would be in good shape. No matter how late I put her to bed she still gets up early!

I would suggest bringing her into bed with you at 5am and cuddling her.  Hopefully she will go back to sleep.  My daughter does the same thing and will usually go back to sleep but if not I dose and let her play with toys in the bed.   I also have had some success with feeding her and putting her back in her crib at this early hour but if she cries I bring her back in bed with me.

I think that it's important to have a sleeping and eating routine but the rest of the day can consist of a variety of things to keep your infant from getting bored. As long as you provide plenty of age appropriate activities throughout the day on most days you are doing a wonderful job. There should be 2-3 meals served to your infant at this stage and 2-3 naps throughout the day. Keep a sleep routine in place and keep nap times consistent (not always watching the clock but realizing that after being awake for 2-3 hours she is tired) and your infant should do really well.

We have a set bedtime most nights. This is flexible, but we try to keep the same bedtime because it seems to help our daughter sleep better.

As far as daytime routine goes, it's flexible. We definitely let her have naps when she's tired, and as someone else said, she kind-of has set her own routine...we know that after she's up for a certain amount of time, she will be ready for her first nap, so on and so forth. Don't be too worried about a daytime routine...just do what works best for your family...but as you start to watch your baby, you may realize she actually does have a pattern of how she sleeps. Don't stress over it, though. I'm sure you're doing great!

I still let my son nap pretty much whenever he wants to. If he takes a nap it is because he is tired. But by doing that he just formed his own routine, so they are about the same time every day. He does have a set bedtime.

Hi. My baby girl who is 7 1/2 months old has been on a routine since she was 3 weeks old. However, it's not a strict routine, we could have half an hour time to be flexible. Every thing goes so well if you have a rough routine in your mind and keep sticking on it. Don't be frustrated if she wasn't following the routine for a day or two. She will finally fall into the routine naturally by time.

My son is on a routine. He is 8 months old and has been on one since 5 weeks. This is just what works for us though. I change his sleep times every 3 or so months as he gets older and can stay awake for longer. I got some sample routines from the book Save our sleep by Tizzie Hall and just adjusted it to hs needs. As i said, it just really suits our lifestyle.
