Why does my baby wake up soooo early???

My daughter is 18 months old now and sometimes thinks it's time to party at 4AM! Other than that her usual time to get up is 6AM...I put her to bed at 9PM and she has an hour or two nap just after noon....what else can I do??? How can I get her to sleep longer?

From all that we've read and it has worked out well for us, it is counter-intuitive. The later they go to bed doesn't mean the later they'll sleep in. Our little guy goes to be 6:30/7:00 and sleeps until 6:30/7:00 am. We stuck to it since he was about two months old. So for us, early bed time means longer sleep time. Another thing, make sure your little one gets all the calories she needs during the day. That is one our doctor told us. Get them all during the day, they won't need anything during the night, keeping their bellies full through night. Just some things that work for us. I think some go through phases though, so maybe its just a phase for her waking up so early.

My little guy was doing this and we just had to take turns making him go back to bed. I agree with making sure they get enough calories during the day. We also started doing a bottle at that time, he will normaly go back to sleep and sleep until about 9am. With about a 9pm bed time.

Alyssa wakes up between 5:30 and 6:30 most mornings. When we are on holiday she wakes up an hour earlier ... at 4:30/5:00 most mornings. I could not emagine this being the usual wake time. Times that she wakes up really early, I try telling her that it is still bed time, I take her for a walk around the house and then put her down again. Sometimes it works.

Some kids are just early risers......just know that you're not alone! I'm usually up on average b/w 5:30 and 6:30 am but Roxanne has been known to throw me for a loop every once in a while and is up and ready to go by 4 am also! There's also been days where she sleeps till 7 am! Roxanne fairly strictly is in bed b/w 7:30 - 8 pm but she's also down to one nap a day, right after lunch lasting b/w 2-3 hours

I think you may just have to accept the fact that she doesn't need as much sleep as some kids! As long as she's happy and not cranky or fussy during the day then I wouldn't be too worried about it! If she's cranky then ya, maybe you do have a problem but I just wanted to let you know that ur daughter isn't the only early riser!

Good luck!

some children have what they call a interal clock and they wake up withthe sun. my youngest has it an he is turning 14. depending on the age i can change but usually comes back its just in there gene make up. so darkening the room wont help> make it sothey will stay in there room till its time to get up > you could use a baby gate at the door so they cant get out and get in to things, leave books close by so they can look at them etc>

We have our daughter nap time at 2:30 to 3:30pm we put her down no later then 4pm if possible she sleeps for 2 to 3 hours wakes we play hard and put her to bed at 10pm no later then 11pm she wakes 10 hours later this really works for our work schedule and that way we both get to see her during the day good luck.

my child sleeps alot.. from 8 to 830 at night and dont wake up untill 9 to 930 and she takes a 2 hour nap during the day... it is nice but i havent done anything to make her that way.. she wakes up when shes ready.. so maybe she just doesnt need as much sleep every baby is diff.. and i think you might just stress yourself out by trying to make her sleep more .. id say the best thing to do is go to bed when she does so that you are ready when she is

Have you tried putting light cancelling shades/ curtians up? I have foil on my babies windows. Helps with the sunlight, as well as the temp. Also, does your child like it warm/ cool? Both of mine like it cool, they sleep better and longer. I have a little fan in my youngest child's room, and the a/c in my oldest childs room. My son is 18 mo and sleeps anywhere from 9 pm-9am, and my daughter is 6 mo. She wakes up a few times wanting her pacifer, and a bottle around 6 am, sleeps until 8-9. Maybe look into these ?

Good luck in any case.

I wish I had ideas for you, but I can just give you some comiseration. My son is the same way...he hates to sleep. We have tried the later bedtime vs earlier bedtime, more naptime vs less naptime. I guess he is just a morning person (which is bad since no one else in the family is). Hang in there !!!!
