Baby not gaining enough weight

Sasha - posted on 12/19/2013 ( 1 mom has responded )

Breast feeding for 2nd time, I did with first who is nearly 15 for a month, bottle fed rest. But Ellie isn't gaining enough weight, only feeds for half hour at most feeds & feeds every 40 mins to hour & half, HV says she isn't getting the last of the milk with fat & calories but she either falls asleep or refuses! What can I do?

Try hand expressing a bit before feeding so she only has the hindmilk and you have discarded the foremilk. Or, (what I had to do with my LO) pump after you feed so you drain the milk she doesn't drink and then next feeding, after about 10-15 of breastfeeding, offer her the bottle of expressed milk that you pumped the previous feeding. Hope that helps!
