How do I get my 3and 1/2 year old to stop putting things in her mouth?

She puts everything in her mouth. I thought she would have grown out of this by now.

You're right you can't ignore it just in case the action causes harm. If I've learned anything about raising my two girls it's ignoring the problem won't make it go away, and might cause some other problems you didn't see coming. All my best wishes for you!

I think that might be it. She seems like an anxious or nervous child. I tried to ignore her, but I can't She can choke on a penny.

My daughter would put things in her mouth until she was about 8 1/2. She still bites her nails. I found she has a difficult time talking about what makes her nervous or anxious. The mouthing of things is their way of communicating unease. Putting something in the mouth can help you feel in control of something and work off anxiety which can become a habit. Talk to your 3 & 1/2 yr old at the moments of mouthing something. There might be some anxiousness she's dealing with.

why do u think she does this ?? my 3 yr old will at times but try to ignore it. maybe u are makin a big thing so she will do it for effect now ? kids do that !! sorry dont mean that in a derogatory way !! not had this prob so i am guessing hope it helped x
