My ex is manipulating my 13 year old daughter

WHAT!?! I found out last night that my ex told my 13 year old that when she turns 14 (which is in Decemeber) that she can decide who she wants to live with. A little background on my ex..he cheated on me with a so called friend..he also tried to cheat with my own sister...he has had a problem with porn in the past...he has had several inappropiate relationships with married women..AND he has introduced my daughters to 3 women now. Can I legally stop this? or does the courts go by what the 14 year old wants?? I live in Georgia

my ex did this to his other kids. In the end, after forcing them to talk to a children's lawyer 3 times, they chose their mother. Kids are smart. Also, the courts want what is in the best interest of the child. They CONSIDER what the child WANTS, but if what the child wants is not in their best interest, they don't automatically give in to the child.

Yes, your child can decide which parent she lives with. The courts really take into consideration which parent the child wants to live with. However, your ex would have to take you to court and file for custody. Then your daughter would have to testify on which parent she wants to live with. I highly doubt your daughter is going to be willing to go to court and tell a judge she wants to live with her dad over you.

As far as i know just because they say they want to live with a parent dosent mean that will happen only that at that age the courts are willing to listen to the child's opinion. But they will still make a decision on whats best for the child. Hope this helps also you could phone legal aid and ask them what the law is on that in Georgia.
