Bedtime Help

I have a 9 week old son and I'd want to start him on a sleep schedule but I'm afraid it's too soon or he's not ready. It's also difficult to start a riutine when he's at his dad's house until 9:00 two nights a week. So by the time I pick him up he's usually asleep already and so he wakes up too early.

I need some help, can anyone give me some advice.

Hello- My son is now almost 7 months... For the first 3 months I kind of followed his schedule- fed him when he showed me he was hungry, put him to bed when he yawned and rubbed his eyes. He went to bed roughly the same time everynight (somewhere between 8:30 and 10), but I didn't worry about it too much. Gradually I started setting a schedule for bedtime at night, it took a week or so of him crying when I'd lay him down, but now- he is in bed by 8:30 everynight, and he is sleeping til about 7 or 8am. If your son isn't sleeping well as he gets older, I would suggest cutting out one of his afternoon naps. I did that when Kyen was about 5 months old and he started sleeping through the night. Unless he was teething, that is....

A lot of people told me I needed to set a strict schedule, but I felt like he needed to sleep whenever he wanted. He knew his body and needs better than I did, you know? I'm not sure how helpful I've been... but I guess what I'm saying is to trust your gut and trust that you know your sons signals better than anyone. As for the nights he's at his dads? You'll just need to communicate your needs with him and try to get him on the same page...

Good luck!
