My son started on his own around 18 months when he saw his cousin go potty. All bets were off then and he was naked all the time. I ran with it. He is 2 now and the majority is done. I never push him just ask him if he wants to go potty. If he wants to go outside, swimmimg, anything that would be considered a treat I have him go potty first. The only downfall is he plays with himself constantly! :)

My daughters 2 and a half and has been toilet trained since she was 18 months. I actually got some advice from afriend of mine who had her kids using the potty from when they were one and that was to let your child see you sit down and pee in their potty. If they see mummy or daddy do it in their own potty they start to bulid up confidence-it may sound silly i know because thats what i thought until i tried it and it actually worked. She would sit on the toilet willingly everytime i needed to go so we'd sit side by side and sing together 4 5 minutes. just a suggestion.

Don't push it this young. my son is 19 months and just starting to get intrested in the potty partly because he sees me and his big sister use the big potty all the time. plus he is around more kids that are older and use the potty then other kids in diapers. Even now i'm not pushing it on him. in the mornings both me and him go and sit on the potties and nothing usually happens but it's him asking me to take off his diaper and let him sit on the potty. Boys tend to be slower then girls and a lot of people i've talked to haven't even tried to potty train their sons till either they were closer to 3 or showed intrest... don't worry about it too much

My son was 20 months when he got rid of the diapers also at night. With 10 month he started using a potty, but we only had a routine first thing in the morning and before sleeping. Since he usually woke up with full blader, it worked well. I was using cotton diapers, so probably he had more feeling... When I took the diaper of, I took him to the toilet every hour at first (standing), if the blader was full, he was happy, if not, we did it again in about an hour. And of course, even if he was too late for the toilet, that was just fine for me. Good luck!

!8 mos is pretty young but especially for a boy they are a little slower than the girls. If i were you I'd wait for another good six months and save you and your boy the grief!  You don't want to be working on his self-esteem when he isn't even ready yet! Good luck!
