Yep - solid food (well, pablum/rice cereal mixed with milk to start out with...not really "solid") will fill up their little tummy enough to increase the sleeping pattern to 5, then 6, then even 7 or 8 hours through the night. Like us, they're creatures of habit. If they get a feeding every 4 hours, they'll continue to expect it and wake for it. If they don't, they may just learn to sleep through it after a few nights of having their "routine" altered. That was my experience. My 16 month old has been sleeping through the night since about 7 months... As a single mommy who also runs a business, I needed all the sleep I could get - so the short-term pain of struggling a few nights to break his every 2-3 hour feeding habit each night was absolutely worth the long-term gain for us both.

Quoting Crystal:

Have you put your baby on pablem or any solid foods? All i can really suggest is give your baby some pablem before bed to top he/she up.

Hey Crystal am having the same problem with my baby. What is pablem????? and how does it work???

If your baby is eating some solid foods, then he/she should not need night feeds. Generally it is advised to make sure that they go to bed with a full stomach and then provide only water to drink if they wake. This should reduce the incentive for him/her to wake unecessarily in the night.

Hey Chrissy,

I tried feeding my little guy solids ie. farex/baby rice for brekkie & perhaps some custard for tea.  Keep up with the bottle/breast but this should cut out those night time feeds. Good luck & take care. xox
