My son does not listen to me when we are in public. He will not stay by my side and throws a fit when I pick him up. His discipline is timeout, and he understands timeout but still misbehaves in public. Does anyone have any suggestions?

hi, my son is 4 and he still plays up, some time so bad i feel really embrassed. ive started to take the rains out with me again on my other son pushchair and if he plays up i give him a warning and if he doesnt stop he goes on them, ive tried to ignor it and give him the choice of having a treat once a week but going with out if he plays up, in public just forget about the people who look at you, im sure they have all been there and they have just forgoten what it can be like. stay strong and keep at it, im sure ur work something out. x .

I use time out in a corner but when we are in public, in order to get him in a corner I would have to physically hold him there  while he screams.  If I dont hold him he will run away from me laughing.  At home, when he gets out of hand I can just hold him in a bear hug: not a squeeze but just enough to keep him from kicking and getting away.  I feel like I would create a spectacle if I did that in a grocery store.  He is 2 so I know he is just being difficult!  Would you hold your kid down in public, or leave without punishment like I normally do?  When I get home he sits in timeout but when I explain to him why he's there he wil not look at me and ignore me and point at something to try to distract me.  He spends a lot of time in the corner crying, but I'm not sure what else to make him understand???

basically my son was the same, and one day i simply had enough gave him two warnings to behave in the shop and told him that noughty steps travel with mums, he was warned so i made him sit for four minutes on the floor where he had been standing, the only thing that was bruised was his ego!!

i used a childs wrist strap to keep my children near me also when they misbehaved in a shop i would give them one warning and if they did not listen i would leave the shop even if i had shoppin what kind of time put do you do i know it sounds harsh but i would put my children in a corner of a shop window and turn my back on them till they calmed down as for the fits again just leave your child cause he is gettin what he wants your attention so he will do it more
