Hi, My 6 yo insists on sleeping in my bed all the time. I decorated his room the way he wanted it, put a double bed in there thinking he liked the big bed but no matter what I have done, he still insists on sleeping in my bed. anyone got any good ways to lure him back into his OWN bed. Thanks

i am going thru the same problem with my 3 year old daughter, i have no problems with getting her to sleep in her own bed, its during the night she climbs into my bed while im sleeping , i never notice her til early hours of the morning , when it is too late to put her back in her own bed, i think it is the comfort and closeness that they feel when in mum's bed that makes them keeep going back........poppy told her that there are fairyies under her bed who look after her while she is sleeping and if she is in mummy's bed they cant look after her... it worked for the first night , but hasnt since :(

i did this when my son was about 2. I slept in his room for many nights.

every three nights or so, i would move closer to the door. i was slowly making my exit. after about a month, he went to sleep on his own and stayed in his room. the key is to not talk to them and to return them to their bed as soon as they get out of it. you will get it...keep trying.

i am battling with this with my 3 yr old and what im doing is putiing her to bed in her own room reading a story then put music on i then stay in the room until they fall asleep but i do not talk to her once the music is on. if she refuses to sleep then i tell her im going to make a cuppa n then i dnt return in hope she falls asleep, if she comes down to get me i take her hand and walk her back up in silence put her in bed and walk away i keep doing this until she wears herself out, she screams blue murder sometimes but i dnt give in as she will know she can win me over and walk all over me.

I have a 4.5 year old. What worked for us was a sticker chart. For every night she slept in her bed she got a sticker and after every 10 she gets a prize. At the same time we talk about how she is a big girl now and not a baby and babies sleep in mom's bed. We have some off nights but it has worked pretty well. We also have a rather elaborate bedtime ritual that had to be developed as well.

My 3 year old does this too but is getting better....I've found that getting him to go to sleep in his own bed is half the battle, even if that means that you are falling asleep too! I think it just takes a lot of patience and determination AND dedication to getting this problem solved! GOOD LUCK!
