Im 26 years old and Im 25 weeks pregnant..and Ive been told by my doctor that my CTS (carpol tunnel sydrome) is just goi ng to get worse as I progress in my pregnancy. So now they are scheduling me to have SURGERY while Im pregnant. Aparently they are gonna give me a local (that wont hurt the baby) and I am to be awake the whole time this surgery proceeds..Im really worried! Any advice??

Seriously sweety nothing to worry about. I had my appendix out wen i was 6mnths pregnant and although i was extremely terrified to be rushed off to surgery within 6 hrs of getting pains, it all turned out fine and i have the happiest healthiest child! I know its scary but they wouldnt do it if there was any risk to your bubby!! x

You are welcome sweetheart!  Look at your baby-belly!!  AWWWW!  I often want another when I see the baby belly.

I am sure you'll be fine with the surgery.  It is helpful to have it done now, since you won't be able to use that hand much the first couple weeks after surgery and that does not work with a newborn.  I am a physical therapist and have worked with several patients with CTS - it is not too bad of a surgery.  Good luck, I'm sure everything will be fine.

I had a friend who had surgery while pregnant, and her surgery was not as simple as CTS.  Her and baby were fine!  He is four now, and they are great!  Also, I worked in the medical field for years so I can assure you to a degree that there is nothing to worry about.  I know it's hard not to worry, but I think you are making the right decision as I said before, in getting it done now rahter than later...........You will do great!

I understand that you are worried, but really CTS is an easy surgery, and you will be awake.  That SOUNDS scary, but it will not affect your baby AT ALL, and you will feel no pain.  It's better to get it done now, so you can heal and do PT before your little one is born.  You will need all the strength you can get when you have baby.  It is a good decision, please don't worry yourself to much.  You will deal with pain after surgery as narcotic pain meds will be very limited, but you can get through it!
