My son came home when he was 3 1/2 weeks old. He had been sleeping in a crib in foster care and continued that. We sleep in the same bed occassionally depending on what's going on. I believe it is totally up to the individual. I do know I got a lot of grief from my mother when I would let him sleep with me.

My son was put in his own room since the first day he came home from the hospital. When he was really sick when he was 2 he slept in my bed for about a week, as I was worried I wouldn't wake up and something might happen. It was hard to get him to grasp that he had to start sleeping in his own bed again for a while. I recommend doing it as soon as possible!

Mine went in at 3 months, she'd outgrown her moses basket so it was a good time to move her to her own room and cotbed. She's been fine there and sleeps through 11 hours a night.
Good luck!

My baby boy were in his own room at 2 months, he goes to bed at 7.30 and sleeps right through, its also helps to get a blackout blind so they get a piecefull nights sleep without the light waking him up to early in the summertime.x

My son had his room since day one. I came from the hospital and that same night he slept in his crib until the next morning. He´s been there ever since.

I think the right time is when you are ready. My daughter sleeps in her own room most night but sometimes I just want to be able to cuddle with her. Everyone tells me that is a huge mistake. But, the way I look at it, she is only going to be this little for a little while and I wanna enjoy it. So if you want to keep your baby with you, I say go for it. =)

this has helped thanx but i'm still not sure- i need to do the right thing for him and i do think he is ready now but keep talking myself out of it & finding reason why he needs to be in the same room has me- how do you get out of this way of thinking?

I did it in my own time i tried when my daughter was 6 months old and i couldn't handle it so i moved her back into my room (she handled it fine though). i eventually moved her again at around 12 months!! But at the same token if i were to have another the baby would be in its own room when it started sleeping through my friends have had great sucess with this option!!

To be honest when you are ready.  They will be ready.  With babies its 3 nights of hell and letting them cry Checking on them every 5 to 10 minutes but do not pick them up just rub them and comfort them and walk away.  I had success with this with my 3 boys.  It was hard but it does give them that independent that they all need.
