What is the best pain relief for labour?

What pain relief did u use? was it good?

I had an epidural, as my blood pressure was too high (pre eclampsa) to give birth without. It was effective but, i really disliked how uncomfortable i felt afterwards with numb legs, and since having my son (3 years ago) i have a small area on my back which always feels cold to me and aches in the winter where i had my epidural.

Just woundering what everyone thought on this? and what worked for them?

Biting down on the gas nozzle..... It sounds crazy but It worked for me. Inhaling gas&air made me feel sick and dizzy, and It was too late for an epidural =] x.

I tried gas and air when i first stated to feel pain even with the epidural but it had not effect for me, just made me feel sick and light headed lol

I only had 2 short labours. The 1st was with gas n air only but only lasted 2hrs by time I felt pain. Doc said I have high pain threshold which is great but I basically slept thru 1st birth so only took very little for the second. 2nd labour only just over an hour of real pain. I used to walk when pregnant and helped at the labour. The gas and air got me thru no problem
