Club Soccer needed to get into College?

I was wondering if playing Club is a needed requirement if a child wants to advance at a higher level? I hear some say my son needs to play Club if he even wants to be looked at by High Schools or Colleges. Does anyone have any experience on this?

Hi, My daughter has been playing for years.. Basically what Club has come down to lately (In my area), that if you have the money your child is on the team. Doesnt mean he/she will get much play time. Becareful with some clubs.. most are good. but there are a few who are looking for $$$$$

I agree that club soccer is really not necessary, but it can't hurt. My son plays club and at 14 has already had college recruiters at his tournaments. He didn't start playing club until he was 10. Our high school coach has said that if a kid wants to play in college, alot of it is up to the kid to pursue the coaches and let them know they are out there by contacting them and providing game schedules. My son will eventually need to complete a soccer resume and the NCAA Clearinghouse paperwork. Our high school team also attends camps and tournaments where college coaches and recruiters attend. We live in a small town and a couple each year seem to move on to play in college.

It can't hurt but is not really a requirement. Depending on how old your child is there is not really a need to push them early on. They need to learn how top play as a team, and learn the fundamentals and how to lose gracefully first. That is alot of monet for them to learn how to do things that they can do at a rec. level first.

He doesn't need to be on a club team, but more exposure never hurts. My family lives in a small town of just over a thousand people. We have had a few boys go on to college to play soccer.
