10 yr old tantrums

My son has been off the hook lately with talking back not listning and throwing things at me screaming! Is this normal for a 10 yr old?

This is not normal to throw things at your mother! I have raised two sons who are now in their late teens and believe me we have had some right hum dingers of rows but they have never thrown things at me. This is a control issue which needs to be addressed. Sit him down when he is calm and tell him that this is not acceptable behaviour and that it upsets you. Ask him if there is anything he wants to talk to you about and then ask him why he feels he can throw things at you. If he does not open up then maybe it will be worth enrolling him on an anger management course as he is only going to get worse when the teenage hormones kick in. My first instinct would be to have regular sit down chats so he can get things off his chest without the violent out bursts. Good luck

My son has melt-downs every now and then, but he's a perfectionist. He hasn't done anything like you are describing though.
From what I am looking at with the regular child development on the internet for 9/10/11 year olds, they may want to establish more independence, but every website says to remain patient but also to remain firm with your boundaries.

Have you spoken with him about what he's so wound up about? If this was going on with my oldest, I also be talking to his teacher, coach, friends, parents of friends, etc..., and find out if he's only acting this way with you, or with everyone; and if there are other factors you are not aware of.
Good luck!
