3 week old baby spitting up...ideas?

My 3 week old daughter has begun to spit up, not just small amounts, more like half of a feeding. I am breastfeeding. It is not every feeding, but I am now very careful to keep her upright for good 30-60 min after feeding and make sure get in a good burp. Anybody have ideas on what might be up and what else I can do? Also wondering how long this will last?

my daughter used to do that. like projectile after almost anything she had. because she was my first i thought it was normal. this went on from the day she was born til about 5 months then stopped. she then started doing it again at about 12 months. i brought it up to her dr because at 12 months it didnt seem normal. turned out it was acid reflux. now she is 18 months, and she takes a little bit of medicine every morning for it and hasnt thrown up again. i notice that if i forget the medicine one morning she will go back to puking but as soon as i give it to her it stops. hope this helped!

Sounds like reflux. My son had a terrible case of it that lasted 9 months. They make medication that helps but when they have reflux they can puke up anything. Do research online and compare notes. Make a feeding and puking log for a week and take it to your pediatrician. Wouldn't recommend and upper GI scan to make sure , its just not fun for the kiddos. My son had one at less than 2 months old. Check out the website pollywog.com they have great resources and stuff you can buy to make things better. Its hard having a child with reflux but it is managable and it doesn't last forever.

I never breastfed but my daughter did the same thing with formula. She would spit up most of the formula. But it eventually went away after she began sitting up it due to the muscle in her stomach not being fully developed. Things will get better.

We went to the dr yesterday and found out that it is acid reflux. He perscribed some medicine for the heartburn pain, but said that the reflux part has to do with her gag reflux which is just something that she will have to outgrow. The good news is that she is gaining weight like a champ!
Thanks everyone for your advice :)

Also, you have to keep in mind that when baby spits up it is not as much as it appears to be... the spit up mixes with saliva which makes it looked like a LOT more then the amount it actually is.
If the keeping her at a 45 degree angle (too straight up or laying back can cause spitting up if it is reflux) for about 30-60min after the feed is helping her to not spit up then I would say it is reflux. Her pediatrician can prescribe her Zantac and you will see an improvement.

Probably reflux. Babies do spew but when it's heaps it's more likely reflux. Take her to the doctor and see what they say about it.
