My 3 year old always spoke a lot, and quite clearly for his age. He has always had a very extensive vocabulary. Lately, however, his speech clarity has suddenly changed. He's not enunciating his words as clearly at all and I struggle to understand some of what he says.

We had his hearing tested and it was fine. Any ideas on what this is all about, and what to do with it?

Sounds like he as a lot to say and is talking so fast he can't get it all out as clearly as before. As adults we actually slur our words a lot, we just don't notice since most of those around us talk in a similar manner. Just continue what you are doing, having him slow down and enunciate so that you can understand him. It will pass in time.

I asked the doctor. He had no concerns as his speech is still quite advanced. However, what concerns me is a reduction in clarity. Could it just be laziness? Talking too fast? Or....?

We stop him and have him enunciate more clearly, so that we can understand, and he will. It just seems odd. I wondered if it was wax in his ears or something but I don't know.
