It sounds odd, but my aunt had this problem with my cousin. It turned out that he was afraid of the water splashing out of the toilet when the poop hit it and hitting him on the head. They ended up giving him a "magic hat" that would protect him from any poo-y water! It worked. Try to find out exactly why he won't go.

It is very common for children to be afraid of this. Why? I do not know, after working in a daycare for 5 years and having 2 children of my own. I say do not worry to much about it. When he is ready he will do it.

Dawn, I went through the exact same thing with my son. We, as well, tried EVERYTHING. It was my mother that suggested that we bring back the potty. We had put the potty away when he started peeing in the actual toilet. It worked for us. Took a little while still, but he was not scared of it at all. We took the potty away again after he was completely accident free!

I am going through the same thing. My son is 3 and has been peeing in the toilet since September. He refuses to poop in the toilet and will hold it until he is miserable and in pain. I give him prunes, pears, and pear juice to make it so soft that holding it becomes too difficult. But, he always goes in his pants. I have forced him on the toilet knowing that he needs to go and he can't hold it when he is sitting down. He goes but cries hysterically and I'm afraid of making the situation worse. The pediatrician told me to wait and he'll come around when he is ready. It's one thing that they can control and I think that's why they do it. Good luck.

maybe try to make a game out of it, also if he does poop have him wave good bye to it before he flushes. My son loves to say bye bye poopy

My son will be three in a couple of days, I had this same issue with him a few months ago. He would pee consistently in the toilet, he even pooped a couple of times, but not consistently. Soon he became constipated because he didn't want to poop. I took him to the pedi's and the pedi told me that it's common for boys to not want to poop when they're potty training. He told us to switch him back to diapers and to begin giving him Mialax. It's like a stool softener/laxative, it comes in a powder. Because if he continues to hold it in, it could lead to irreversible complications. He just told us to wait, that our son will let us know when he's ready. As much as I loved him being potty trained, I guess I will have to wait and see what happens.
