True on the digestive tract for the babies and also true that they should only have formula/breastmilk and rice cereal. My mother did the same thing to me with my first child and I would tell her to stop. My mom was giving my baby DIET SODA! The scary part is that as you introduce baby food even that is suppose to be regulated to one new food a week to check for allergies. They may not show signs of an allergy that same day. God forbid your baby is allergic to something your not gonna know what it is and have to play trial and error. Tell Mom that and maybe she can calm down a bit. Spoiling is what grandma's do but spoil the baby in other ways b/c you really don't want a severe food allergy to pop up and not know what it was that caused it. Besiddes how are you gonna look when it does happen and have to answer questions to the doctor on what the baby had. " I don't know" would get me in trouble with my doctor who is very straight forward. Try telling her that studies have shown that babies that eat solid food to early are at a greater risk of being over weight as toddlers. Good Luck and try not to hurt grandma's feeling...I know it is hard!!

the doctors say that a baby does not have the proper digestive system until 6 months of age. if given table food before 6 months old then the baby can get gassy, have pooping problems and the food stays in their tummy a lot longer cause it can not be digestied. But in my opion if your baby is not having any problems as far as gas, pooping and being crancky from a tummy ach then all is well. your mom should deffinetly not give him sweets and junk food at this age though. No cookies, thats just asking for a weight problem as he gets older. Hope this helps.

At four months the only things he should be eating are breastmilk/formula and infant cereal. Babies that young can't digest anything else yet and some even have trouble with infant cereal. There is no rush on giving foods to your baby, he will have plenty of time in his life to taste different things.

You really need to put your foot down on this. Explain to your mother that giving him things like that will cause him to become constipated and possibly develop food allergies. If I were you I'd simply tell her if that if she continues to feed him things behind your back she will not be allowed to see him.
