4 year old peeing his pants again!!!!

My 4 year old son has been potty trained for a year now. Over the past few weeks he's been having accidents during the day and night. The last 3 nights he's peed his bed (and last night he went pee before he went to bed and woke up at around 1130 to go pee). He peed his pants at school (this has never happened before) I'm starting to get a little concerned here. Should I put a goodnight diaper back on him at bedtime? Should I start giving consequences to him during the day (he pees his pants when doing an activity and he's having fun)? I am so frustrated with my 4 year old peeing his pants and don't know where to go from here..any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

Oh thank god it is not just me. We are having the same problem and I had no idea what to do. My only problem is that it is happening more so at kindy during the day and I don't think the teachers care. We are concerned that with going to big school next year he will be teased etc. He is already very sensitive and more in touch with his sensitive side than his 2 brothers. He is also now the middle child. HELP>>

You might also want to think about things that might have changed in his life since your 4 year old started peeing in his pants again.  Any added stressors?  Moving, new school, stess inside your home, new sibling, sibling coming.

There are so many things to consider when a child returns to accidents.  My daughter gets so busy playing she waits till the very last minute to go and sometimes has an accident.  I usually try to keep an eye on her during concentrated play, and ask her if she has to go when I see her "dancing".  Putting a night diaper on may make it worse.  I would revert back to potty training days, and wake during the night to take him potty, or remind him when he is playing.  Reminding him that he is a big boy and he knows when to go to the potty might help.  Children do things for different reasons, it is hard to tell why your 4 year old is peeing his pants again.  Make sure communication is open, and his environment is not a factor.  I am not a child expert, but I hope that helps a little with your 4 year old peeing his pants.

my son did that when he was younger and it was caused by his gall bladder not working correctly he had to get it out when he was in the third grade after that he never had an accident again

We had a similar issue, so I went back to setting a timer for 1 1/2 or 2 hrs and when the timer goes off it's time to try whether you have to go or not. Does he care if he has an accident? My son hates being wet, so it's torture just to walk to the bathroom to take his pants off :) What did he say about peeing at school? Was he just involved and didn't want to stop his activity? I might check with a doctor just to make sure he doesn't have a urinary tract infection. We started giving Ezra a sticker when he went on the toilet and his underwear were dry. Sometimes he wanted to put it on his shirt and sometimes he put it on a chart in the bathroom. Another thing that he loves is "peeing like daddy" (standing up) Any time he is in the bathroom with daddy he likes it so much better.

I fogot to say that I agree with Sarah regarding reminders and watching his physical cues.  My son does the same thing when he is busy playing, but he is stooling, not urinating.

You might also want to take him to the doctor to make sure he does not have a urinary tract infection or is not having bladder spasms.
