There were many risks and of course (things we had to give up) followed by the reward to stay home with the children etc.

When I left my job, I had a little 401K plan (small nest egg), but that was it as far as retirement. Now as time passes, I think more and more of retirement and not having any. I know the saying "work until you die these days", but I am scared that we will have to do that. My husbands company doesn't offer 401K, so we have mine invested a small IRA and that is it. Does anyone else think about this? I know things change with time...jobs, money increases etc, so is this one of the risks?

I would like to write more, but my kiddos are at each others throats. Ugh!

I would like to hear your insite on this subject.

Cheers!

Even though your husband's company does not offer a 401K you should be putting 10% of his income into some type of IRA...Roth IRA is a good choices. And mutual funds are not bad investments either. It may take some sacrifice now, but like you said, you don't want to work til you die. And sacrificing now will ensure that you don't have to.

Think of it this way...pay yourself first!

In your mind that 10% needs to be non-negotiable. Have it automatically taken out of your account so its like you never even had it. You'll be better off in the long run!

Sacrificing...that is the word I was looking for and couldn't find. Thanks! I try with the 10%, but some months unable. I do need to get better at this. Thanks!
