6 month old and finger food.

Hi, my baby has just started showing lots of interest in food and she seems unsatisfied with just her 200 ml of formula (4-5 bottles a day) I have started some cereal, veg and fruit. The thing is I have been told by the health nurse to do finger food/table food so i tried but she seems to be close to choking and its scary. How are other mums finding this? She will happily eat food from a spoon that i mash and enjoys it...but i know that isnt what we are told to do these day!!!! Just wondering how others with 6 month olds go with food? Thanks

I don't think you need to rush finger foods if she doesn't seem ready. My daughter started enjoying cheerios at around 7 months and we started different kinds of finger foods at around 8 months. You could always wait a couple weeks and try again.

Some people have luck with the finger food at that age, but I never did. My kids always choked. I would spoon feed them, and try about once every couple weeks with just a tiny little bit of really soft foods (those puffs in the baby aisle always worked great, because they dissolved fairly easy). Nurses and other health care professionals go by a general guidline of when things are supposed to happen. You know your child better than anyone, and if you aren't comfortable, then wait a little longer then try again.
