My 8 month old baby has separation anxiety he has a fit if I leave the room or if he's not right by me... he does a little better when his dads home and he's holding him... first baby I don't know what to do i tried distracting him with his toys but that works for a few minutes some times not even a minute..

Every baby goes through this! Then they go through it again and again at different ages, it's totally normal. If you haven't already tried it, get a baby carrier and wear baby around while you get stuff done around the house, it really works wonders for letting baby know that you are going to be there. At this age they really don't understand that you are two different people yet, start playing peek a boo too, this helps them understand object permanence. Lay him on his back and sit at his feet, hold his legs up vertically to the floor so his feet are blocking your face from his point of view then separate his legs in a V and say here I am! The where's mommy game helps a lot, I always talk to him too when I go into another room as well. Hearing your voice may be all he needs. Or baby wearing can at least let you get things done :) hope this helps
