Allergic to Rice Cereal???

I started my 5mth old on rice cereal and he did great with it the first couple of times. Then the fourth or fifth time he had it he projectile vomited exactly 2-hrs later. I waited a week and tried again and the same thing happened. I mixed the cereal with breastmilk that was in the freezer for a couple months and put nothing extra in with it. This is the first and only time(s) that my son has ever projectile vomited. I am going to make some homemade apple baby food for him to try next and then if he keeps that down I might try Oatmeal cereal and see how he does with it. Has anyone ever experienced this before???

I agree with Randi. Maybe you need to hold off on solids all together for a little while. Maybe even a month or two. 5 months is still very young for solids. My 4th dd couldn't tolerate solids until she was 9 months old. Everything (and I mean everything) constipated her. Also, cereal isn't the best 1st food. When you go back to solids try avacado, then after about 3 or 4 days try banana. Fruits and veggies are the best 1st foods, not rice or oatmeal. Hope that helps!

i never had a problem like that with rice, however my daughter had a similar experience with oatmeal. I found that every time i gave it to her, she threw it up, but when she ate it in the baby yogurts that had a small amount of it she was fine. your babys stomach may not be able to digest the rice yet and you may have to wait a few more weeks and try again like i did with the oatmeal or you can try mixing it with another grain or applesauce or if that doesn't work you can try giving the baby some infant mylicon before the feeding in case it is a gas problem.

We started with rice cereal too, but found that it just made him too gassy and uncomfortable, and put it off for a few months.

Breast milk will actually keep for three months in a fridge freezer that is separate from the fridge section, and six to twelve months in a chest freezer.

We started my little guy on solids at 6 mos with rice cereal. Not a good reaction, but no projectile vomiting. We stopped the solids for a little bit and then went to sweet potatoes a few weeks later. Maybe you should hold off on solids for a little bit?
