Scavenger hunts or walks... especially if you have a dog... picnics even planned sports.

The beach if you live close, Parks are allways fun, the local pool my 11 month old and of course all of the older children love the water. Local farms if they have a day where the allow the public to come see the animals, pick your own produce farms are alot of fun for older kids and probably a little one too since it's not often that that is allowed and pumpkin patch season is comeing up. Otherwise look up what is happening in the community I'm allwasy amazed at how many events different communities have planned through out the year.

At 17 months, he would probably love a family trike ride on the foothpath. You can get those ones with a handle that Mum or Dad can control. Our daughter is 4 and loves the outdoors too. We walk with her while she rides her bike and it's one of her favourite things to do :) We also go bushwalking together whenever we can. (Not sure what you call that in the US - hiking?)

Look for a painting place in your area. My children love to paint and the finished work is the best feeling. (Most places will fire their work when done)

I have a good jog-stroller and we would walk for miles it also helped get the baby weight off.

I take my kids to the Pet store and they can look at all the different animals. It is good for a rainy day where you maybe can't play outside. :)

I have a 23 months old and a 4 year old - we are a tight budget right now so I look for all the cheap places to go to keep the kids happy and to keep me sane! We go feed the ducks once or twice a week, we go to a park with other kids their ages, I take them to Chick-Fil-A and buy them a $1 cookie and let them play for a couple of hours in the play area or I take the kids over to someone elses house and let them play.

Definitely find a park! Don't know where you live, but where I live in Virginia, there's a park/farm that has swings and farm animals, and there's also a museum of animals and stuff native to this area. It's cheap if you get a yearly membership, and kids under 3 are free. My son is only 8 months old, but he loves going there! He likes to look at the critters, and when he gets fussy, I take him for a walk on the trail so he'll fall asleep. Another fun thing to do is go to the pet store and look at critters. And you can always get some sidewalk chalk or sprinklers, that stuff should be going on clearance soon!
