Comment for Kendra's question: my daughter was still getting constipated after her cecostomy tube was put in. The doctor had told us to wait two weeks after surgery to use it. During those two weeks, she got constipated, OF COURSE, and it was weeks before we could get her un-plugged. She had a bladder augmentation 6 months later and they had to relocate her cecostomy tube in order to perform the bladder augmentation (it was essentially getting a whole new cecostomy in a new location). I told the doctor I was NOT going to wait two weeks to use it because of the disaster that was caused with waiting after the first tube. He spoke to some of his partners and one of the other doctors said she always had her patients use the tubes right away so our doctor approved us using it right away. NO problems with the second tube and it's been great every day since. If I had to relive the few weeks after the initial tube, I would be very aggressive with the laxative to get her unplugged right away.

can anyone tell me how old their child was when he/she got this cecostomy flushing device? my son will be 2 next month and he was born with an inperforate anus and was given a colostomy bag when he was 3 days old...me and my fiance have been talking about when to bring up the possibility of getting his bag reversed to his doctors but we didnt know when to bring it up. The doctor had brought it up when he was born that he may be able to have it reversed later in life but hasn't said anything since and with my son being so rough with his twin brother it is hard to keep the bag on now and didnt know if the cecostomy would be easier. thanks moms

We just had to make sure we kept the site clean and dry. We used a solution of peroxide and water (never more than 50% peroxide or it irritates the skin) to clean with around his button daily. If he got any bleeding sores at ostomy site we used nitrate sticks on them. i found that the Chait trap door leaked and was always irritating his skin. So he choose to go back to a Mickey Button for his Cecostomy. What type of button does your daughter have?

It is used as a feeding tube but we do notbuse it for thatbpurpose. My daughter had a colostomy bag for a year and then had a reversal. The cecostomy button is in her large intestine and is used to flush her out to avoid her being backed up.
