Any mother out there with a child with PDD-NOS?

[deleted account] ( 3 moms have responded )

My son was diagnosed with PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developemental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified) Its having signs of autism but not enough to diagnos the child with autism or aspergers. I would like to know more information on this. If anyone can help by giving me links or any info that they may have, I would appreciate it alot. thank you!!

try Autism Speaks . My personal belief is that the site can still provide you with information on it or atleast point you to the right direction. good luck

I have an 11 year old 5th grader diagnosed PDD-NOS. I don't know that there is a lot of information out there. My understanding is that it is so different from child to child. They can display any combination of autism symptoms. I think the best advice I can give you is to try to best figure out which sypmtoms your child has and work with them. My son has some social and quite a bit of sensory issues. We've jut tried to find the best way to deal with those things both at school and at home. Make sure he's tested at school and get him an IEP so that he can get any specialized help he needs there. Talk to the school and/or his doc about getting him into a social skills class if he has any social issues. That has helped my son a lot by showing him the appropriate way to react in different social situations. Feel free to contact me direct if you have any questions, I'll see if I can answer.

Thanks...I have visited the Autism Speaks website and it was truely helpful. I have also contacted a program for children with autism and pdd-nos and they have offered so much to me and my sports teams and social events that he can attend. I have already gone to the school and asked for the evaluation to be done but they are taking their sweet a@$ time with it and its not helping much. thanks for replying...God Bless!!
