If you have hyper-emesis like I did nothing will keep it down but drugs. I had to take Zofran as even the Phenergan didn't do anything.

But for most women ginger ale or candied ginger, antacids, and Popsicles or lollipops work great. Good luck, hon! :)

I had awful stomach reactions to prenatals both times I was pregnant... had to take extra Iron too so that sure didn't help the situation! What I found to really help was to forget the prenatal and take two Flinstones vitamins with some type of stomach calming food and/or drink right before bed. I would usually eat like 2 saltines and drink a couple of sips of ginger ale with the vitamins RIGHT before bed. Worked wonders! Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

PS. If you happen to have to take extra Iron during your pregnancy there's a special kind that's much easier on your system as well. It's a slow release tablet that you can find at most drug stores. Just ask the pharmacist for the name... I forget it, but it worked wonders! :)

Prenatels are full of iron..iron does better in the system at night. Try right before you go to bed and see if that helps. It helped me..I would get sick in 5 minutes after taking them in the morning. I switched to night and it made a big difference. I would still call your doctor and talk about it.

I found the generics at Target and CVS are much more tolerable. THey are not brown and smelly, but pick and much more like a normal pill...that helped me a lot. And I agree, take them at your best time of day, with a meal is often good. And the chewables can be a life saver.

Take the vitamin at the time of the day that your stomach is not upset.  No one said you have to take them in the morning.  If you feel good in the afternoon take them then!

Take with food at a time when your morning sickness isn't as bad. Vitamins in general make people nauteous if taken on an empty stomach.

Take your prenatals at night with dinner. I had horrible morning sickness and had to do this and it worked great! I had a few people suggest it to me (including a friend who is a nurse and my OB). Good luck.

Hi,

I just posted, but wanted to tell you not to give up the folic acid. That should not be making you sick. Some ppl here said it made them sick, but try to keep taking it. It is the most important one to take. It is proven that when taken, it can help prevent things such as downs syndrome, spina bifida, etc etc etc!!! very important

Hi There,.

I had the same problem as you with prenatal vitamins. My DR. prescribed me "Pregvit." It is prenatals that  break up the iron in two dosages. The iron is what makes most ppl sick, it is hard to digest. Give those a try.

There are also morning sickness pills your doctor can prescribe to you to help you with the morning sickness, I was told that when I was pregant with my last child. I never did have to take them as things improved.

Try taking them in the evening, your prenantal vitamins. I have a hard time with Folic acid, instantly sick right after I ever took prenatal vitamins. I have three children and the last two I had to take the prenatal vitamins in the evening after my morning sickness subsided. Hopefully this will help you, I truly do feel for you! Have a great day!

Thank you all for your help.  I will try the flinstone thing until I can talk to my doctor on monday.  I hope it works.  I will also look into that Preg Vit. Aimee, it sounds like a great idea.  Thanks again.

I have bad morning sickness with my current pregnancy as well as my last pregnancy. The las time I ended up not taking them for the most of my pregnancy. But this time I have a new doctor and she gave me Preg Vit. It is made by the same people who make Diclectine (nausea pill). There is two. One you take in the morning and one you take in the evening. The way my doctor explained it is that they split up two of the ingredients (I think Iron and Folic acid) which normally can cause nauseousness together. It REALLY worked for me and I've been able to take the vitamins every day this time. I'm not sure where you live but here in Edmonton, AB they are over the counter, the only downside is they are expensive. My doctor constantly gets samples in and gives me a bunch each time.

I was taking the flinstones vitamins as well...or you could have your dr look into giving you a different prenatal...you might find one that agrees with you.  And if not....just keep eating healthy to make up for not taking them.

instead of taking your prenatals, take childrens flinstones. take 2 instead of the reccomended 1 for children. when i was preggers i could not keep down my prenatals, and my dr suggested the flinstones. they are a lot easier on your system but give you the same suplements you need. and they now have them as gummys which are perfect for morning sickness. i am so sry youre having trouble with this, but i understand. in my first trimester i lost 15lbs instead of gaining. and the flinstones was the only was i could get my vitamins. hope this helps

Try taking them right before you go to bed. A lot of the women I worked with in the office would take them before bed because they would make them so nauseated. Also, if that doesn't help, you can go the Flinstones chewable vitamin way! They taste MUCH better. That is what I have done both pregnancies myself. If you don't want to eat Flinstones, many doctors will say a normal multi vitamin with a folic acid supplement will do. Call your doctor though to see what they would like you to do. Good Luck! It will get better!!!!

you should call your doctor.  If you cant handle prenatals try drinking breakfast!!!   I had sever morning sickness too.  Prenatals made me even more sick, so my doctor told me to start drinking 2 glasses of breakfast a day!!!   Good Luck I know its hard. Get plenty of rest!!  It will go away sooner or later!!!
