How do you like it? How do you balance the job and the kids?

I have a possible opportunity to be an at home rep for a car rental company(legit) that is popular in our town, due to nearby tourism, and it pays well. Full time, just answer the phone when someone calls, make rental reservations, and bam- $10.25 an hour. So, wondering how you like being a working SAHM or SM

Can you set your own hours? Working from home is awesome, but it can be a balancing act that you are always adjusting as your kids grow. For me I found that trying to talk on the phone or type a report while my kids were little was hard to do when they were awake. So I would often times do my work during their nap times or after they went to bed at night. As my kids have become older and are more independent (7 yrs and up I would say.....my oldest two now are 15 yrs and 11 yrs) it became easier to get work done when they are around, but life has become busier with activities. So times when I use to get work done we are now at a game or going to a concert, so I have had to adjust my working time to accomidate the new schedule our family has.

I would look at the ages of your children and the hours required and if they are set hours. If your children are young and you have to be on the phone during most of the daytime hours it might be a hard balancing act. Kids know when our attention is diverted and will start to find everything in the house that is off limits and start to get into it. They will push that chair up to that counter and climb on it to reach something that is on top of the fridge. If you have more then one child as soon as that phone rings it is a bell that tells them the fight is on and off they go or there they go picking up the baby.

It can be great working from home. I love it. But I also think in order for it to work you have to know your family and what you can do. I only work about part time because that is how much time I have. I don't want to hire a babysitter to watch my kids ( I also have a 20 month old), so the time I have available to work is only part-time.

Do you feel.. unfulfilled,, or less important by not interacting with other adults as you would if you worked "out in the world"?
