Both of my kids are school age (10 and 14) but I homeschool. I do some volunteer work with the kids at a local thrift store as part of their good citizenship course.

I have four children ages 16, 13, 9, and 5. I stay at home 90% of the time. I did get a job since they are all in school. I enjoy working outside the home. I took a part time job waiting tables. A conventional job does not allow me to take off if my children are sick and this one does. I have always told any job my family comes first. I had to for my sake. I felt I was losing myself not interacting with adults. I am much happier getting away from my children if only 2 to 3 days a week for a few hours a day.

Yes I have a son who is 12 years old and a daughter out of high school with a full time job and living at home and a 22month old. At times I feel that i need to work, but this is the first time to be able to. My first 2 I was not able to stay at home and I have has both worlds. And I believe staying at home is hard work. Its very mental no brake at times and I seem that I am more on the go.

I say when asked what I do that I'm a SHM (stay at home mom) with a masters degree in RYR (Run Yourself Ragged). the looks I get say it all...I then explain that I have 3 kids in school an even though they are in school my job does not stop. I don't find an outside job to be any different than mine except that you get paid money and well that isn't enough to make me quit my currant job as my payment is knowing I didn't miss one thing in my childrens lives. My son (17) will tell you I have the hardest job in the world with very little benifits from an outsiders point but you take her place for the day and see what your missing with your kids. Me I wouldn't have it any other way.

I really like how you put that "i take care of my family and our home" I keep forgetting how to put it when i am put on the spot. And yes i want to be there when the kids are sick or get home from school and are on holidays as they grow up so fast. The other day i was feeling particularly down because my husband works away a lot in his job and i thought if i had a job then maybe he wouldn't need to work away. Then out of the blue my 9yr and 13yr were talking about something and said how they are glad i don't work and am home with them. They also added i hope our wives do that one day if we get married. ( i did tell them it's not always possible for both parents to stay home and they said we know we just hope they do, lol) It made me feel so good to know how much they appreciate me being there :)

My son is 6 and in 1st grade. I am constantly asked what I do for a living... and I answer take care of my family and our home. I do feel extra pressure to get a job, however the benefits of me staying at home majorly outweigh the noisy questions.
