At what age should my daughter stop having afternoon naps?

My daughter is 3 yrs old and she still has anywhere from 2-3 hour naps in the afternoon (not that i'm complaining). She goes to bed at 8-8:30 every night and will wake at about 7-7:30 every morning.
then she goes down for a nap at 12:30 every afternoon..... when should the naps stop?

My son is three and it takes me a bit to get him settled down for a nap but then he sleeps for over an hour most days. Sometimes I think is over the napping thing but I still need that break from him. So if he doesnt seem to be going to sleep I just make him sit in his bed with a few books for awhile. I believe that all children of any age should have at least a half hour that is quiet time just to themselves. Gives them a chance to unwind and rest. So I suggest never stopping the quiet time.

My kids still take naps, not as much, but they used to go down at 9 up at 11 back down at 2 up at 4, and bed at 8......I think they are very well rounded because of it...just my opinion of course. we did do a lot in between those hours. Now I have a 5year old and 10 month old, they are not nap takers, but I try!! So, I say if she's willing to rest her mind and body, and just do a relaxing time (that's how we describe it) I say keep doing it!!! Help her with stress later on in life. Maybe! : ) Enjoy!

it makes me feel good to know that even older children can nap, so thank you for posting this!! my son is 10 months and he NEVER naps, except for once in a blue moon. it has been such a strain on me...i never get anything done. i also feel like i need to have some time to myself because he is up a lot at night to nurse. he is a night time feeder, tried nursing him during the daylight for weeks but he just likes to graze.

Quoting Caryn:

When shes ready for them to stop. My 5yr old on non-school days still takes a 2-3hr nap as well and a lot of school days she comes home and lays down for awhile.
Some kids *need* more sleep than others. Enjoy the couple of hours in the afternoon that you don't have "help" with folding laundry or washing dishes :)
