Baby not sitting up alone at almost 8 months...

[deleted account] ( 5 moms have responded )

My daughter is almost 8 months old. She can sit very well if we sit her up, but she cannot get into the sitting position alone yet. Are there any things I can do to help her learn, and should I be concerned?

Hi Karalyn,

My daughter just turned 8 months today. We started her sitting up by propping pillows and or boppy around her. It helped her to pull herself up, but if she fell back, she had something soft to fall on. We also brought her an activity chair that she can play in or eat in. It's like a feeding chair with a saucer that goings around it and has toys on it (kind of like evenflo bouncers). She could play, while learing to hold herself up straight.

Hope this helps.

I don't think there is anything to worry about. My son will be 9 months this week and could sit up fine if we put him there. Now since he has started crawling a few weeks ago has figured out how to get to the sitting position by himself. Don't worry, every child is different. I have 4 and they have not always met their milestones at the same ages.

Hi i wouldnt be too concerned yet. There is however this little chair that is apparently designed to get them in the correct sitting position and some people say it helps them to do it themselves, i think they are called bambinos- they look like a little spongy stool with spots to put their legs and bottom. I know it helped some kids i know. Good luck x

no there is no need for concern. If she is not sitting independantly by 10mths then maybe go speak to your doc
this is going off adivce from a book called baby love and my daughters health nurse.
