Why is it when you want a babysitter for three kids it's ok but when you say you have four they look at you like you are nuts...

wow only 3. i would take that. I watch my 4 nieces and my 2 boys during the week. the trick for me to have someone else help or take over, is to have lots of things lined up for the kids to do during the day, and plenty of snacks to keep them distracted. have them help make lunches, movie time with popcorn, and plenty of outside time.

I wouldn't recommend them bringing a firend as often your children go neglected while the girls phone their boyfriends...

Have fun things for everyone to do while you're gone as well as good snacks -

well, when i was in high school and i babysat, for that many kids i would have asked if i could bring a friend to help. expect to pay both sitters a fair price though.

Probably because it's a bit beyond their level of experience. Some babysitters aren't even comfortable with two! You might be able to find a local babysitter that has experience with a larger number of kids by going to care.com or another sitter-finding service.

I'm imagining it's gotta be difficult for you.
