I'm having spasms in my lower back....It's been happening on and off most of the day today. It's happened a few times before but not this bad and it went away faster too. I'm currently at 17 weeks. It's on the right side of my lower back. I'm not sure what's causing it or how to help it. Any ideas?

Does your back spasms move to the top of your abdomen when you move? I feel my back contract for 2 mornings in a row and all that helps is Tylenol it felt like back labor I'm 14 weeks can you give me advice it only happens in bed at night should I sleep on the couch or sleep sitting up?

Thanks!!!! I was starting to wonder if there's was something seriously wrong with me. :) I'm glad I'm not the only one to deal with this! Thanks so much for the information! I have been to the chiropractor and it helped alot, I plan on going again as soon as possible. I have noticed that hot showers do help some, and heating pads. I haven't had any pain in my tummy. My next prenatal visit is this afternoon so I plan on asking them about it too.

Thanks so much!!!

I do agree that it could be your pregnancy especially if its just your back thats in pain and not anywhere else. If that is the case then I would suggest a chiro or physio or even a massage., esp one that deals in pregnancy. However gall stones are fairly common during and after pregnancy. I had them during my pregnancy and my daughter is now 12 wks old and I had my gall bladder removed recently. If your not getting the stomach pain i'd say its not the most obvious thing, but I guess its still a possiblity. In any rate, the best place to go is probably the doctors. Also I found when I had back pain that standing under a very warm (hot) shower seemed to do the trick as well. Hope this helps :)

It does sound like your sciatic nerve, I agree. I had the pain all the way through my pregnancy it was terrible. I wish I would have known that a chiropractor could help because it was torture. Unfortunately there is nothing else that can be done for it. Heat pads seemed to help or staying off my feet but the second I stood up it would pinch and hurt again. Good luck hope you find some relief!

It sounds like your Sciatic Nerve. It's in your lowe back region. With my 1st pregnancy, I got that pain around 18 weeks, and then again at 35 weeks. A chiropractor can do wonders! Even in late pregnancy! With my 2nd, I got the pain around 17-18 weeks, and then again at 30 weeks. With my 3rd, I would have it off an on throughout my pregnancy, but it wasn't as bad as my with my first two. I did go and see the chiropractor more often with my 3rd preg. though, just because it felt SO much better afterwards!!

Hi, You body is changing quickly. Are you having any pain in you belly region? Are the spasms consistent...like are the one steady, one after another, one and then minutes in between? If it is just muscle spasms a chiropractor can help. I used one with both of my pregnancies. Your spine is being compressed in a way as your belly get bigger, the muscle in the belly region get longer and the lower back get shorter. Your med. ins. may cover the visit and they may have a massage therapist who can help too.
