Being a young mother

I started at 20 had my son and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I am 28 now and my son is 8 years old. I still to this day have comments made or wierd looks just because I'm young. I don't mind it as much as I used to when I was younger. But sometimes it still bothers me that people could be so ignorant. It doesn't matter the age motherhood is defined on how much love you have for your child and the commitment and sacrifices you make for them. That is what being a mother is all about not the age if it was not all of us would be great mothers.

I guess I'm the opposite. I had my last child at age 39 and that has been a great experience. I'm more financially secure and we worry much less. However, if young parenthood works for you that's great. Different strokes for different folks!

I had my first child at 17, he's now 11. Personally I don't give a shit what others think, for me it was an awesome decision, certainly taught me to grow up quickly, and decide the way I wanted to bring my kids up. My mum was really supportive and supported my lifestyle totally

I'm with Sarah.
When I tell people I have a 17yo the first comment is: "You're not old enough". When I tell them I am 44 and that I am well old enough since I had him when I was 26 they shut up.
I also had an old man harass me when I was pregnant with my oldest. He thought I was 18 and all us "young" ones wanted to do is have babies so we didn't have to work. He quickly shut up when I told him I was 26 and had been working full time for 10 years, in 3 different countries and had been married for 3 years.
I can't help that I look younger but people will always comment.
