My son has to get his blood drawn for the first time. I just want to know how bad it will be, or how much hes going to fight me. Should I have support, like someone there with me? Or What kind of needles will they use?? Help!!

how old/strong is your son, i had my daughters blood done at 2 and she was scared but they let me sit her on my knee and hold her which helped. if you can get him to focuse on you and talk to you during the draw it may help to take his attention away from the technician. also, maybe take him out to eat at his favorite restruant afterwards, my daughter was pretty mad at me afterwards. i brought my mother along, but that was more for support for me then her, lol. you will get through it and he will get over it, good luck

Make sure they use the right sized needle for his age!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ASK!!!! they dont always tell you that they need special sizes! and you getting upset will not help! acting is one thing moms have to be good at! be brave for them "NEVER LET EM SEE YOU SWEAT". if it seem like its gonna get ugly, get up on the table with him and hold him with yer arms and legs, just not too tight. you just dont want him to move in the middle of it all! if he is infant they should have assistace for this. its a delicate situation!

how old is your son? i've only had experience with my newborn getting his blood drawn. it was okay. all they did was a little pin prick in his heel then massaged his shin/ calf down to the heel to bring the blood out, put it in a tube (or two?), put a cotton ball and band aid on his heel, then he was done.

do you BF? if so, i read that nursing during and after shots lessens the pain. i nursed my son each time he had blood drawn and the most he did was grimace then went back to nursing. if you don't BF maybe a bottle would work as well? i'm not sure about that as i have never tried it
