I would try to replace the formula with water. I'd do this for several reasons:

1. It isn't good for his teeth for him to be getting formula at night.

2. If he's taking in calories every two to three hours through the night this could be enabling him to consume fewer calories during the day (causing him to actually need the night bottles). He's either come to rely on the night bottles to get enough to eat, or he's overeating because of all the bottles at night on top of what he eats during the day.

3. If there's only water in the bottle you can get it to him faster before he wakes up more fully, and maybe eventually you can work toward just leaving the bottle of water with him for when he wakes up. Switching to water hopefully makes the wake ups less disruptive, and something he can deal with on his own.

I think a lot of people would insist that you just let him cry it out, but that would be an enormous transition for him to make all at once. He's getting so many bottles right now, possibly consuming a large portion of his calories overnight, and seeing you very frequently throughout the night.

What's in the bottles you give him at night?

Are you just handing him the bottle in bed, or are you sitting up with him while he drinks them?

How long is he awake each time he wakes?

Does he still nap during the day and if so, how often and for how long?

What time does he go to bed and what time he get up in the morning?
