Can anyone recommend a book to give to future carefgivers of a child with an autism spectrum d

I would like to be able to provide a book to caregivers for my PDD-NOS 5 year old son that would briefly help them to be able to care for him with more understanding and patience. Any suggestions?

I liked reading "Look Me in the Eyes". It's written by a man with autism. It basically shows how he sees the world. It doesn't give advice but is still a good read. Also, "Born on a Blue Day" is good. I read a fiction book called "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time" that was fabulous. Again, it doesn't give advice; just a good read.

Donna Williams, an adult woman who lives with autism. She wrote 2 books that I know of Nobody Nowhere and Somebody Somewhere ( the second book inthe series). It descibes life though her eyes and really gives insight into how people with autism have a different perspective than the rest of us. Inspiring, inlighting, and I always had all of my paraeducators in my autism support classroom read it to help them change their understanding of how autism effects children. HTH

Temple Grandin is a great author. She is a woman who was diagnosed with autism at 15 and was able to succeed in life against many difficulties. Check her out.

"The boy who loved windows" is an incredible book. I can't recall the author's name off hand, but it was written by a mother of a young boy diagnosed with Aspergers/PDD. It is a heartwarming memoir of her struggle of dealing with the diagnosis, and overcoming it.

What if you put together a little book yourself...Im sure you can cut and paste about austism and then be able to give them some info on your son as well!
