My daughter was the one who decided when she was done breastfeeding. It was at 4 Months. It was just not satisfying her anymore. It was really a surprise to me because breast milk is supposed to be sweet and formula is awful tasting. What ever satisfies your baby is what is important. Make sure you ask your babies doctor for a recomendation of what formula to use! Good luck with everything. Dont let anyone make you feel like your doing something wrong for stopping at 4 months.

If she's not getting enough then weaning to just formula may be best up until one year old. After that time it'll be weaning her from a bottle and formula to milk in a sippy cup.

ah, I'm sorry. A lactation consultant didn't help you figure out how to teach her to latch on correctly? Yeah, if you are already giving her all that formula, your body probably won't relearn to give her the correct amount of food. At this point, I'd probably say go on and giv her just the formula. She got the nutrients that are most vital from you already. Maybe with your next baby you'll get better information from the git-go and have an easier time. My cousin never could give her son enough milk, so he was weaned at 6 weeks, but her daughter is doing wonderful on just breastmilk. Each child is so different. Let me know if I can do anything else for you!

Thank you Elizabeth.  My Daughter  is 15 weeks old at the moment, 16 weeks on Sunday coming.  The thing is, she is already on 8oz of Aptamil for hungrier babies every 3-4 hours!   The formula tin suggests that babies at her age should be on 6oz.  7oz when they are 4-5 months.  So I reckon I will have to start to wean her at 4 months.  I did breastfeed for a while, but had problems her weight remained static for the first couple weeks-  she turned out to be "nipple feeding" .  So that's why I decided to give her expressed breastmilk and also formula.

Quoting Elizabeth:

You can. You'd have to feed him formula until a year, but there is no law saying babies have to be breastfed for x number of months. Some only breastfeed for a few weeks, some not at all. It always makes me sad when people give up on it, but everyone has their reasons. Are you having a tough time?
