My period came, but it was much shorter and not as heavy as it usually is. I have been on the pill since my youngest was born about 3 years ago. I have missed pills before and never gotten pregnant. I did miss some pills this last time. What do you all think?

DAMN SKIPPIE YOU CAN!! i have 2 kiddos and both times i got pregnant i was on birth control. if your on birth control you should know that if you take any meds be sure to ask if its gonna interfer with it. i know that anti biotics messes up your birth control and it takes at least if not more then a month for it to kick back in.

I went to the Doc cuz I thought I had the flu....the 9mo flu that is...LOL. I wouldnt change anything now, she is my little miracle baby...!!

I got pregnant twice while on the pill, never forgot a day and was not on any antibiotics or other medications that would mess with it. Just food for thought. Ended up getting an IUD that worked until I had it removed four years later. Never had a problem with it.

The only way to be sure you won't get pregnant is to not have sex. All forms of birth control have a certain failure rate. The patch is pretty reliable, but it will still fail for about 1 out of every 300 women who use it for a year.

Quoting Tanya:

if I got pregnant on the IUD you can definitely get pregnant on the pill!

Sidebar- What? I thought the IUD was the most foolproof?!? Would like to hear more about that one! I have the 10-yr copper IUD. If you have any more info would love to know more!

Yes- you can get pregnent on bc- especially the pill. Most of the time it's user error. :) Can also be things like taking medication in conjunction with the pill like antibiotics. Maybe when you missed pills before it wasn't around a time when you would be ovulating?

Either way. depending on when your period was, wait a couple days and take a test. If it's negative, and you're still unsure about it- wait another week or two and take another one. Best of luck to you!

hmm well i'm on a progestrin only pill and i haven't gotten my period since i started 4 months ago. With progestrin-only it is very time specific. If you're an hour late then it's bad.
Yes you can get pregnant while on the pill..if you miss a dose you should use an alternate form of birth control (ie condom) until you're back on track. If you keep skipping the pill it's better to look into getting the shot or something else like mirena

Yes... twice for me, but they ended in miscarraiges. They don't always, though. My cousin's son is proof of that.

If you missed the pill there is a good chance youre pregnant. Technically, if you are, it wouldnt be a case of getting pregnant on the pill. Itd be a case of missing the pill or not taking it correctly and getting pregnant. I got pregnant on the patch, taken correctly.

If you think you may be pregnant see your doctor or get a home test. I have a friend that got pregnant while she was on the pill, so it is possiable.

Yes you can get pregnant on birthcontrol. The pill is actually not very effective nor is the iud the most effective for of birth control (thats reasanable for adults) is the Depo 99.9% effective on its own. I have heard of some others but have not done the resurch on them to know if they are effective at all. But as said even with the most effective birthcontrol taking antibiotics or not taking them regualy lessen the effectiveniss. Take a test every woman is differant but it could be anything that is causing a flux in the cycle

Yes, you can get pregnant while on birth control. My first daughter was a pill baby (they don't usually tell you that antibiotics can cause the pill to be less effective). My 2nd daughter was a condom breakage baby - wasn't on the pill as my doc didn't recommend it due to my age and my having been on it for quite some time previously.
That said, it might just be stress or hormones - I would take a test in a few days and check for sure.

Thanks everyone for your support and advice. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative...still feel weird about it, but it's my mind messing with me. It isn't convient for us to have another one right now, but I really want another one. So it's probably just my mind messing with me!!! Thanks again!!

Oh and someone mentioned the dosage of the pill... My dosage was increased every few years throughout my 20's until I was taking the highest dosage they make... and still got pregnant.

It is definately possible to get pregnant on the pill. It happened to me and I did not miss any pills. I also used to take the pill straight through and skip my very long and inconvenient periods for 3 months at a time so there was no "being late" to alert me that I was pregnant. During the first 8 weeks when I was pregnant but didn't know, I had spotting around the time when my period was supposed to be, that happened all the time so didn't think anything of it. I decided to take a test when I came to work feeling very ill and a work colleague commented that I had felt ill in the mornings for the past couple of weeks and I also noticed new bras I had just bought were suddently too small.

I agree wait a while before taking a test. My daughter was 2 months old when we thought i was pregnant again. I was 3 days late...took a test and it was positive. After much crying adn coming to terms with it we decided we better do the 2nd test. So 2 days later i took it and it was negative. 2 days later another same thing and then 2 days later same thing. I ended up getting my perid the day after the last test but it too was much lighter. My daughter had her 4 month needles a few weeks ago so i told the Dr and she ordered a test as i was late again and it too came back negative and that afternoon i got my period.
I was under a lot of stress and my hormones were still all wacky so it can be a number of things for you as well. Wait at least until your next period and if it doens't come take a test. I wouldnt' waste your money before then. Or at least wait 2-3 weeks. I have no knowledge the side affects of taking BC while pregnant adn not knowing howver. A girlfriend of mine got pregnant both time wusing 2 different pills and her son seems fine, she is waiting the arrival of the 2nd still.
Good luck!!

Yeap yeap. My oldest is a pill baby. Second is a pill or patch can't remember, baby. Third was a nothing baby- was told couldn't have anymore. Fourth and fifth ended in miscarriage and they were condom babies. After those we decided we definitely wanted one more so just didn't use anything.

So yes, you can get pregnant while using various different birth control options.

I'd take a test. The first time I got pregnant, I was on the pill and we used a condom. If you are pregnant, the quicker you know the better so you can stop taking the pill if you are.

Good luck!

taking antibiotics with your BC can cause your BC to not work so always use a back up method when you are on antibiotics!!!!

yes you can get pregnant on birth control. i know 4 people who did. sometimes the dosage of the pill just isnt strong enough

Most definately you can get pregnant while on the pill. All but 2 of my 6 kids were birth control babies. And I never missed a pill-ever!! The only thing you can do now is wait til your next period is due...and see what happens.

If you are missing pills I would suggest an IUD. I have the marina and LOVE it...!! I will never go back to the pill or any other form of BC again. I had my first for 5 yrs (afte rthe birth of my miracle baby at age 38yrs) and just had it replaced with a new one. They are problem free, worry free...and whats best of all, after 6-12 months, your periods just about stop and there is no more cramping, bloating, backaches or bleeding. And if the time comes that you want to have another baby, your OB/GYN just removes the IUD in his office and viola'....you can start making babies again.

Good Luck!!

I am pregnant with my second right now and was on birth control and I never ever missed a pill. My mom went on birth control right after her first and a few months later got pregant with her second and was also on birth control when she got pregnant with me. It is possible. I would take a test.

I was on the pill which i took every single morning - no antibiotics or anything, and one day I woke up very pregnant :-) So I recon it is 99% accurate - but someone's gotta make up the other 1% :-)

Yes you can, one of my friends was on BC and she got preg. But, missing pills make the risk higher or so I'm told. I've missed pills and didn't get pregnant.

[deleted account]

well one of my friends did but she missed a few days of her pill if you take them the right way i dont think so

[deleted account]

While its rare that people get pregnant while on birth control, it still can be possible. I know 2 friends of mine who were on the IUD and after 3 years got pregnant.

Absolutely you can get pregnant while on birth control. My sister has been on birth control since she was 16 and EVERYTIME she got pregnant she was on birth control! Strangely when she was off of birth control she was not getting pregnant but each time she would get ON birth control she got pregnant. She now has 3 wonderful kids!

well, if you are missing pills, it is more likely that u are able to get pregnant. That said, my ex-SIL has 9 children and ALL of them were conceived while on DIFFERENT birth control... like one didnt work so she tried a different one that didnt work etc... and she used them properly and everything too. i have known alot of ppl using the pill that became pregnant before as well but im not sure if they were taking the birth control regularly or if they missed some here and there.

hi, wait a couple of days and take a test. it could be just one of those months and your period just wasnt heavy. don't worry to much, or u'll stress yourself out unless you want another baby.
