cant sleep at night

my body says its tired but my mind says its not, any suggestions, most nights im up till 2 or 3 am

I would try getting into a bedtime routine. Set a time to be in bed by, and stick to it. Do things beforehand to get ready for bed (i.e. shower, brush teeth, pjs, read a chapter out of a book) then just simply turn off the lights and lay down and close your eyes.
Laying down and relaxing with no light/noise distractions should help. You probably wont fall straight to sleep for the firstfew nights but you are getting rest and reteaching your body that you need to be asleep at this time :)

Have you tried all the usual things, bedtime routine, meditation, relaxation techniques, herbal remedies? If not, its all worth a try and plenty of info out there from just googling. Has there been a major uphaul in your life, something weighing on your mind or stressing you out? Often when the brain has trouble switching off it is because there is some pressing issue that it can't get rid of. The solution is talking about it. Are you avoiding going to bed in case you can't sleep? Some people get stuck in a viscious cycle of waiting until they are really really tired before going to bed because they don't want to lie there awake, so they wait so long that they are over-tired and when your brain is forced to stay awake it has trouble winding down. Other people find that a week or so on sleeping tablets "re-sets" their body clock and then they sleep better, but your GP is the best person to advise you on that. Its a bit hard to be specific without knowing lots more about you, but hopefully this has helped and don't be afraid to talk to your GP.
