Hello Moms! Both of my boys are outgrowing thier car seats right now and I was wondering what kind you recommend. My youngest is almost 9 months, so his will need to be rear facing and preferably 5-point harness till at least 40 lbs. My oldest just turned 3 and is growing out of one of his convertible seats. I would like him to stay in the 5-point harness for a while yet as well. We are also trying to watch our budget. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Quoting Amanda:

My son is 2 yrs. 3 mo. and weighs 40 lbs so he grew out of the convertible carseat we originally bought but it worked out perfect because my 8 mo. old was growing out of her infant carrier and need a new one. We gave that one to her and just bought the Graco Nautilus 3 in 1 carseat. It goes up to 65 lbs harnessed and up to 100 lbs as a booster. There are 2 booster positions, one with a back and then you can take the back off and just use the seat part when he is older. I LOVE this seat!!! It has a built in cup holder and inside the armrests are little compartments for toys. It was only $160  and all the other higher weight harness limits were $200+ when I looked. I would highly recommend this seat!!!

Ditto what Andrea said!!  We tried a couple different ones the first couple of years, and when my 4-year old just outgrew the height limit on the seat that was *supposedly* going to last her until she could be with just a seatbelt we knew we had to try something new.  A friend of mine suggested the Graco Nautilus and it is the best $160 I've ever spent!  The various strap adjustments allow you to use it for children 1yr (not earlier, since it can't be used rear-facing) all the way up until they can sit in the regular seat with just the seatbelt.  First it's a carseat, and like Andrea said you can use the 5-point harness up to 65 lbs, then you can remove the straps completely and it's a belt-positioning booster, then the back comes off and it's simply a regular booster.  Here's a link to the Graco website:  http://www.gracobaby.com/Catalog/Pages/P...||1+10434:4294959424||1#  Oh, and it's got a cup-holder and little cubby-holes molded into the base. :-)   Ok, that's a long enough commercial, lol.

As for the younger baby, I would just give them the convertible that your older child is outgrowing until you can get them a Nautilus too, they are so worth the money!
