so for the first time in 2 years of living out in the middle of nowhere (in comparison to our social network) we need a sitter for a night. I hop on care.com, set up a job description and get plenty of response! sweet! but there's a catch- of course. in order for me to RESPOND to any of the interested applicants, get their numbers, ANYTHING, I have to purchase a membership for $40 (for one month). now if I was going to use this information weekly to search and post jobs, that wouldn't be a big deal. being that I literally need a sitter for this ONE night, ONE job, I think it is ABSURD to charge people $40 for ONE job. I understand they are now a business but are you kidding me?! this is the first time in 2 years I've needed to find a night babysitter and they want to charge me more than it'll cost me for the babysitting job itself!
does anyone know of a FREE way to communicate with babysitters within your area? I don't have friends/family in the area which is why i'm having to hire help. we have day arrangements when necessary but they are closed during the hours I need.

thanks for the heads up about sittercity. I put together a thing through them too and haven't gotten any good responses. We are not church going folk and we don't have any social network in this area, closest people we know are 10+ hour drive away (POOR planning on our part for sure!). I'm having my hubs ask around for names of babysitters from his co-workers.

I tried looking on sittercity once when I had a dentist appointment during the day, they are the same way. I got so many responses in my area, I figured it was a scam. They have auto responses or fake people respond so you think there are prospects. I wouldn't trust it.
There could be a chance to find a sitter at your church maybe. Do you have any relatives or friends who's mother could babysit?
