Contraception, What worked best for you ?

Im Angie Im 25 and I live in Sydney. When becoming sexually active at the age of 17 i started using the pill. Whilst on the pill, I fell pregnant with my first child. I'm not saying it doesn't work for all, just in my case it didn't. After giving birth to my first child I started using the Depo-Provera ( Injection ) I was on that for a year and it worked but I was putting on alot of weight and depression. I then got the implant inserted ( Implanon ) none the wiser that it was just a larger dose of the Depo-Provera...... and that did not work at all because I had severe bleeding in short, my menstrual - cycle lasting for two years no break..!!!

I would like to have the Female Sterilization done ( tubes tied ) But my doctor says I'm too young also as for IUD's I'm not too keen & as for my partner he feels uncomfortable with the idea of getting a vasectomy..!!

I would like to know from all you mom's out there....

* What form of contraception did you use or still using or considering to use ?

* How are you coping with side effects, if any ?

* Have you made dieting an option whilst on contraception ?

* Has your partner had a vasectomy & how did he cope & was it for the better ?

* Do you prefer using nothing at all ? .........

Thank you to everyone who reply ....

The Nuvaring is what I've used for 5 years now. Has always worked great. Never any reactions or spotting. My periods are relatively light with minimal cramping and no other PMS side effects. I've tried the pill and the patch as well and the pill was annoying to remember to take and I'm really bad at remembering that and the patch was like having a disgusting band-aid stuck to you for a week and it gave me a rash and left a sticky residue once removed.

Before I met my husband I was on the pill.It worked fine for me,but now that we have 2 wonderful kids I am done ! I am thinking about getting the miraina IUD-you know the 5 year plan.I have heard great things about it and read the brochures(sp). If your dr thinks your too young for getting your tubes tied you might look into that. This way your on BC that you don't have to think about and still have the option for kids in the future.

I kinda understand what your dr is saying tho,in the states, where I live, you have to have a specific # of kids,or be over a certain age b4 you can get you tube tied.

I'm not a fan of hormonal contraception. it just seems to mess with your body too much.
anywho's, I use spermacide. it's 94% effective when used correctly.
I used it for 5 years between my twins and my 3rd child. and for almost 3 years again, now I'm pregnant with our 4th. hubby will be having a vasectomy when this is all over. :) but he's 30 and I'm 28. We're still young, but with 4 children I don't think we're rushing this. hehehe...

I have a IUD in. Its call the Mirena. I have had it for over a year now and the only side affect that I have had is that I have not had a period sence august and I cant say thats a bad thing. Plus its good for 5 years and after you get it out you can get pregnant right away unlike with the pills or the shot that can take months after you ge off them to get pregnant.
