I think my 11 month old has croup. How do I know for sure? What do I do for him (we have the cool mist humidifier on now)? Should we stay out of the general public? What are your experiences with it?

i used to put my daughter in the bathroom with me when i showered. id put her in a seat and set her across the room so she didnt get wet...and the steam from my shower would circulate in the bathroom and it helped.

Hi Shan, I wouldnt go down the steriods avenue for a baby at all.... do some proper research before you do that ! and Antibotics kill any good gut probiotics for digestion which can result in eczema / allergies etc... again not something that I would personally do. Seriously though the shower, humidifier & vit C ( even if you take it yourself if your breastfeeding ) will work. As someone else said it is possibly contagious - well thats why you need to kill the bug in the throat. I speak from experience.

my son had it alot when he was little it kind of sounds like whooping cough but not that bad and they have a constant weeze, i would take him to the docs as it is appariently contages and if it is croup the doc will probley prescibe steroids to strenthen his airways and antibiotics, they also perscibed ventelin syryp for my son. he now has asthma.. goodluck

instead of a humidifier steam up the bathroom like you would during a hot shower and sit in there with him for a little while. it will clear up his breathing. and then put a vaporizor by his bed while he sleeps and he will feel better soon. if it gets too bad you will have to take him to the doc. i personally never had to treat my child for it but thats what my mom always did for my brother. he got it all the time. worked pretty good too.
